Golf League Championship Rules

This document details the GLC scoring system that will be in place for the 2007 season. All participating leagues shall follow these rules. Also, league administrators and players must be aware that they are participating in an inaugural season and subtle changes to the rules and/or system could occur without notice.
Handicaps:

A golfer’s handicap is determined by taking the best ½ of up to their last 20 league scores. Each score is translated into a differential based upon course/tee difficulty so that the best scores can be determined. The best scores are then averaged to come up with a raw league handicap. This raw handicap is then translated into a course league handicap for a given round of play.

Round 1-2 uses best score
Round 3-4 uses best 2 scores

Round 19-20 uses best 10 scores

The key to the handicap system is its portability. This portability allows leagues to play from different sets of tees and from different courses (be it front nine / back nine, or different properties all together). Also, this 9 hole league handicap is translated to an 18 hole handicap for GLC Tournament play.

Scoring:

A total of 27 points are up for grabs during each team competition.

Match - Player Points:

The player with the lowest handicap is matched against the player on the other team with the lowest handicap for individual hole competition (these players are called the “A” players). They play off the low handicap between them (e.g. if a 9 handicap golfer plays a 5 handicap golfer, then the 9 handicap golfer gets 4 handicap strokes and the 5 handicap player receives 0 handicap strokes). Then the other two players (the “B” players) are paired against each other for individual match play competition. Handicaps are applied on a hole-by-hole basis starting with the lowest handicap (most difficult) hole first.

Each player’s individual match will be worth one point per hole, making for a total of 9 possible points in an individual match (and 18 points in the two matches). A player’s net score on a hole is matched against the competing player’s net score, and the player with the lower net score gets a point for that hole. If there is a tie on the hole, each player receives ½ point.

Stroke - Player & Team Points:

Player – Again, the player with the lowest handicap (“A” player) is competing against the player (“A” player) on the other team with the lowest handicap for an individual total net-score competition (Stroke Play). Then the other two players (“B” players) are matched against each other for an individual total net-score competition. Each player is competing for 3 points per competition, for a total of 6 points combined. If there is a tie in an individual competition, then the points are split, with 1.5 points awarded to each golfer.

Team – Adding both players’ total 9-hole scores and subtracting the total handicap (the combined handicap of each player) will generate a team score. The team with the lowest net total wins 3 points. Again, if there is a tie, then the points are split, with 1.5 points awarded to each team.

Exceptions:

If a sub plays for team member, there are no penalties.
If a golfer (A or B) from one team doesn't show up, then the person (A or B respectively) from the other team (who did show up) will win the 3 Stroke Play points, but will be matched against a randomly selected mystery player to battle for the 9 match points. Also, the team with only one player cannot win the team points (meaning they’ve lost all 6 Stroke Play points). This is incentive for the single player to find a substitute for his missing teammate.
If a player (A or B) from each team does not show up, then the players who did show up (A or B – doesn’t matter) will be matched against each other, and the players who didn’t show up will be matched and their points will be split accordingly.
If both players for one team don't show, then a card will be picked from all teams that showed and it will be used as a mystery team for the competition. The present team will compete for all 27 points and the absent team will be awarded no points. The mystery team will not be awarded any additional points for participating as a mystery team.
Max Handicap = 18 for men and 27 for women. These are the maximum handicaps for an individual for 9 holes of play.

League Standings & Winner:

The team with the most points at the end of the regular season schedule is determined to be the league champion. Should there be a tie, then the tiebreaker goes to the team that had the most points in head to head competition.

GLC Season Ending Tournament:

At least one team (the league champion) will be invited to participate in the State Golf League Championship Tournament to be held at the end of the season. The format will be a team Match against the field, meaning all qualified teams will play a hole-by-hole Match Play against all other teams in the field. There will also be a Stroke Play component, so it will compute much like the league scoring for the season. This is a new one-of-a-kind event that has proven both challenging and entertaining.

The winning team will be crowned the Golf League Champions.
